Corporal Russell A. Dancer 1923 - 1995 United States Marine Corps
Russell Aldridge Dancer was born Jan. 23,1923 in Sugartown, LA. He Moved to Beaumont, TX. after his father died when He was only 2 yrs old. Russell served in the US Marines from 1942 - 1945.  During World War II, He was stationed at Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean. He met Naomi Ruth Terzenbach on the beach in Long Beach, CA. when he and some fellow Marines were on leave just before going over seas. He later proposed to her via letter while overseas. They were married on Feb. 22, 1945 when he was rotated back to the states. He was stationed in Cherry Point, NC for a short time. This is where their first son, Larry, as born. They lived in the Beaumont, Texas area until late 1966, then moved to Orange County, CA. Russell and Naomi had five children: Larry, Diana, Adin, Carol and Joy. Russell and Naomi moved to Des Moines, IA in 1983.  In 1995, Russell died there. "Dad had such love of his children and for singing gospel music. We sang in churches from a very early age through adulthood. We all still sing when there are family get togethers." said oldest daughter, Diana Probst. Russell's name is listed on WWll Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park in Groves, TX. His oldest son, Larry, is also listed there for his part in the Vietnam War. More Pictures Go Back
